Teams at UC San Francisco (UCSF) and New York University School of Medicine will send the anti-inflammatory drug colchicine to people’s homes within 48 hours of them testing positive for coronavirus, according to a statement. Dr. Priscilla Hsue, a professor of medicine at UCSF and principal investigator of the institution’s arm of the study, told Newsweek the trial will start in California on Tuesday. As participants can stay at home during the study, Hsue said, “This decreases risk of exposure to others, use of PPE [personal protective equipment] and need for travel....

The FDA said in December that Evusheld could reduce a person’s chance of developing COVID-19 by 77%. The early data also suggested that the treatment could be protective against the Omicron variant. However, experts want people to understand that a preventative treatment like Evusheld is not a substitute for vaccination in people who can safely receive one. What Is Evusheld? Evusheld is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies—tixagevimab and cilgavimab—that are designed to target the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus....

In the United States, Pfizer’s shot is the only vaccine that is currently authorized for use in people under the age of 18. However, other countries are reconsidering their use of Moderna’s vaccine in light of the reports of heart inflammation. For example, several countries in Europe—including Sweden and Norway—have recommended against the use of the Moderna vaccine in males depending on their age. Early Research Two recent studies—neither of which has been peer-reviewed yet—have suggested that there might be an increased risk of heart inflammation in young males that get Moderna’s COVID shot....

Flight 2401 had left Dallas Fort Worth International Airport at around 7:30 p.m. local time on Thursday June 24 with 190 passengers and six flight attendants on board, the airline confirmed to Newsweek. But the flight diverted to New Orleans after briefly encountering severe turbulence on the way to Tampa, Florida, the airline said. Paramedics met the plane when it landed at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans at around 9....

When one Red Lobster employee in Manassas, Virginia noticed that one of the restaurant’s lobsters looked different than the others, they decided it was best to avoid sending it to the kitchen. Fox News reports that the employee decided to call Seafood Watch, a conservation program run by an aquarium in California. As it turns out, the employee was right to call the program, as the lobster in question was discovered to be incredibly rare....
