An announcement regarding Nabokov’s future in hockey will take place on Wednesday; the San Jose Mercury News reports Nabokov is expected to retire. Nabokov, 39, was drafted by the Sharks as the 219th overall pick in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Draft. He spent the first 10 years of his NHL career in San Jose before spending part of the 2010-11 season in Russia. Nabokov attempted to return to the NHL as a member of the Red Wings but played with the Islanders for three seasons instead....

Afghanistan’s ex-president Ashraf Ghani fled the country over the weekend as the Taliban advanced on Kabul and ultimately assumed power. Saleh said that according to the nation’s 2004 constitution, he is now the acting president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan since Ghani is in exile outside of the country in an unknown location. On Tuesday, Saleh tweeted that the constitution states that “in absence, escape, resignation or death of the President the FVP [first vice president] becomes the caretaker President....

District Judge Wilhelmina Wright told 33-year-old Brett Palkowitsch that he had “flagrantly abused” the trust placed in him as a police officer while handing down the sentence on Friday, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Palkowitsch was convicted of using excessive force by a federal jury in 2019. During the trial, Palkowitsch’s former police colleagues testified that he had bragged about kicking and seriously injuring Frank Baker, who had been misidentified as a suspect involved in a street fight....

Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson exposed himself early Wednesday morning at a Georgia gas station, according to TMZ. TMZ reports that Anderson walked into a QuikTrip convenience store at a gas station and appeared intoxicated as he paid the cashier. He then allegedly started walking around the store and eventually returned to the counter, where he exposed his genitals and began masturbating. Police were called to the scene — but Anderson was not arrested, because the clerk declined to press charges....
