Putin’s health has been subject to fervent speculation for years, with multiple claims, usually attributed to anonymous sources, variously suggesting an onset of Parkinson’s, cancer and other problems, potentially “terminal.” Many of those claims have been proven false by the sheer fact the Russian president is still alive and able to carry on with his job, but that has not stopped the narrative from resurfacing. The Claim The latest claim about Putin’s alleged health woes appeared to link back to earlier unverified reports of the president falling down the stairs....

Chris Hackett accuses his opponent of having “a long history of supporting liberal Democrats.” Actually, the opponent, Dan Meuser, occasionally gives to politicians who are important to his company, but 91 percent of his personal donations go to Republicans. Meuser fires back that Hackett’s charge is a hypocritical smear, because “80 percent of Hackett’s donations go to Democrats.” Actually the percentage is 60 percent. More importantly Hackett gives little to anybody, and nearly all of what he gave to Democrats went to one candidate who was a Chamber of Commerce colleague....

We’re calling this occasional series “Court Watch.” Our first report deals with falsehoods, misleading statements and unproven innuendo about corruption, rape and murder in a Wisconsin race in which an incumbent justice, appointed by a Democratic governor, has been challenged by a lower-court judge who was appointed by a Republican. An independent watchdog group already has criticized one outside group and the challenger’s campaign for making misleading claims. The ads have drawn fire from others, too, including the incumbent justice who might benefit from one of them....

According to a press release from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the seizure occurred on March 3 when border officers assigned to the Express Consignment Operations hub in Louisville, Kentucky, noticed a package arriving from China. CBP officers inspected the parcel “to determine the admissibility of the merchandise and found various rings bearing the names and logos of professional sports teams,” the press release said. During the inspection, a CBP “Import Specialist” was able to determine that the championship rings were in violation of intellectual and property rights as well as trademark rights, indicating that the import of these rings was illegal....

Musk’s updated “Twitter Blue” subscription plan, which includes “priority” feed placement in addition to a “verified” checkmark for a $7.99 monthly fee, launched on Wednesday. Almost immediately, impersonator accounts emerged on the platform and spread false claims about famous athletes before being suspended. An account purporting to be Los Angeles Lakers basketball star LeBron James falsely claimed that James was requesting a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The tweet remained online for around 30 minutes and had thousands of engagements before the account was suspended, according to Snopes....

It will be tough for Philadelphia to make the NFC playoffs, let alone win the conference again, given their closest competition has reloaded to take aim. The Eagles do, however, benefit from a rather favorable schedule. Looking at last year’s records, their opponents combined to go 122-134. That’s tied for 13th “easiest” in the NFL. Here’s breaking down how good things look for the Eagles’ quest to repeat based on all the games they will play in 2018....

The Eagles’ defense struggled to contain the Saints’ red-hot offense from the very first drive. The Saints were able to score on all but two drives, excluding the knee they took to end the game. New Orleans was led by another dominant Drew Brees performance and huge games from Tre’Quan Smith and Mark Ingram. Brees was 22 for 30, passing for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Tre’Quan Smith had 157 and a touchdown on 10 receptions, while Mark Ingram had 103 rushing yards and contributed two touchdowns of his own....

Offseason moves will have a big effect on these rankings. All eyes will be on Le’Veon Bell, but Mark Ingram figures to be a big-time free agent, as well. We also know at least a few rookies will gain steam after the NFL Draft. Unfortunately, there doesn’t look to be a Saquon Barkley-like impact rookie this year (though Damien Harris seems to be the consensus top-rated prospect), but few expected Phillip Lindsay to break out the way he did, so we’re ready for anything....

Eastman then became a key player in backing up the unsubstantiated claims, allegedly working on plans to thwart the electoral college certification. The select congressional committee investigating January 6, 2021 held another public hearing on Thursday, when several allegations were made against Eastman, who has declined to testify about his alleged role in pushing those types of plans....
