There’s no obvious reason why McKinley didn’t want to answer questions from the media this afternoon. It was his first time speaking to the media since he was detained in January and underwent a mental evaluation.
While some enjoyed his “good” answers, Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter took issue with it. Ledbetter, who writes for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, made his thoughts clear on social media.
McKinley responded with a Spongebob meme.
Lynch was famously fined $100,000 back in 2014 for not cooperating with the media. But that’s because Lynch wasn’t available for an interview. McKinley was available, he just didn’t answer the questions the way reporters wanted him to. While the reporters may not like it, McKinley didn’t do anything legally wrong.
Here’s a statement from the NFL after Lynch’s fine in 2014:
We’ll have to wait and see if McKinley keeps this up all season, or if it was just a one-off thing from a bad day at OTAs.
