Renfree completed 10 of 15 passes for 75 yards in the preseason win over Ravens on Thursday night. The Falcons signed the 35-year-old Grossman 10 days ago, but he completed 4 of 9 passes for for 41 yards against the Ravens.
Grossman had a relationship with new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, but team officials had different plans.
Renfree, a 2013 seventh-round draft pick out of Duke, was solid in the preseason — zero interceptions and a 99.0 quarterback rating.
