Citadel Securities gained national attention as one of the market makers that executes trades for the Robinhood app as questions emerged about Robinhood’s decision to restrict certain trading activity amid the short squeeze of GameStop stock by users on Reddit.

Citadel Securities and Robinhood issued public statements that Citadel Securities had no role in the decision, which Robinhood has since said was driven by regulatory capital requirements.

Additionally, it was reported in January that now-Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen made $810,000 in speaking fees from Citadel before she took office, according to documents from the Treasury Department Office of Government Ethics.

The Claim

Twitter users have drawn a connection between Psaki and a Citadel employee named Jeff Psaki, claiming that they are husband and wife or brother and sister.

The speculation of Jen and Jeff’s relationship began after people worried about a conflict of interest between Yellen, and later Psaki, when advising President Joe Biden on the GameStop situation.

In a press conference, a reporter asked Psaki if there were plans for Yellen to “recuse herself from advising the president on GameStop and the whole Robinhood situation.”

Psaki responded by referring to a statement put out by the SEC and the “broad economic team” on the Treasury Department.
