But one claim that caught the attention of viewers was that Meghan worked at a frozen yogurt store called Humphrey Yogart as a teenager.
Viewers were quick to react to the news, like Karina Longworth, who said, “My official statement on this evening’s news: if Meghan Markle worked at Humphrey Yogart circa 1994, there is a 100 percent chance I purchased yogart [sic] from her. That is all I can say on this matter.”
Other Twitter users likened the frozen yogurt store to a location from a TV show, like writer R. Eric Thomas who said: “Humphrey Yogart is straight out of The Good Place,” and writer Mark Harris who said: “Maybe after The Crown ends we could have a Better Call Saul-style prequel spinoff set at Humphrey Yogart.”
The Claim
Meghan Markle said she worked at Humphrey Yogart when she was 13. In the interview with Oprah, Meghan said: “Thank God I had that life experience, thank God I had known the value of working. My first job was when I was 13 at a frozen yogurt shop called Humphrey Yogart.”
A clip of Meghan talking about the fro-yo shop was shared on Twitter by @ckayerawlings who said: “Meghan Markle and I both got our start at the Humphrey Yogart froyo shop in Sherman Oaks, CA. It’s a princess-making shop.”
The Facts
Named for a pun on Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart, known for movies such as Casablanca and In a Lonely Place, Humphrey Yogart is a frozen yogurt shop in Sherman Oaks, California.
On the day of Meghan’s formal wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, Humphrey Yogart called Meghan a “former employee” in a Facebook post and offered their customers a discount in honor of the wedding.
Humphrey Yogart said on Facebook: “Join us in celebrating our former employee Meghan Markle, and her wedding to Prince Harry at Humphrey’s with some strawberry and peanut butter frozen yogart [sic]—this royal combination is available all day Saturday, May 19th at 50 percent off.”
In a comment, the frozen yogurt store claimed that Meghan’s favorite fruit is strawberries, and the peanut butter flavor was inspired by Harry’s supposed love for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Humphrey Yogart also said in a Facebook comment that Meghan worked at the now-closed Beverly Connection location in Los Angeles and added: “We think it was around 1995.”
The remaining Humphrey Yogart location is at Gelson’s Market, 4520 Van Nuys Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.
The Ruling
True.
Humphrey Yogart confirmed in a Facebook post that Meghan Markle used to work at the store located at the Beverly Connection Mall in Los Angeles, possibly around 1995.
