A similar product from Sony, which calls it LocationFree TV, can transmit TV signals, and recorded movies or home videos as well. The software uploads to your portable device, and a home base station connects to your entertainment center ($280; sony.com/locationfreetv). Sony also sells a wireless screen that you can port on the road, or around the house.
Meanwhile, Orb Networks provides access to live TV through PCs, cell phones and palmtops using a free software program installed on a home PC. Travelers can watch from a Web browser by logging on to the MyOrb site (orb.com). One caveat: don’t expect the picture quality to be as sharp as your new flat-panel TV. Depending on the speed and quality of the connection, the video stream could look hazy at best.
