But because an Ironman triatholon is taxing on both the body and mind, Jurkiewicz made a costly mental blunder.
He decided he would be best served by celebrating before he got to the finish line.
Luckily for Jurkiewicz, he wasn't the only competitor to lack the killer instict down the stretch. Igor Amorelli saw his oppurtunity to steal the victory, but decided to pump the brakes once a stunned Jurkiewicz realized he was not as far ahead as he beleived.
This is not the first time we've seen a premature celebration lead to disaster. Who will ever forget Leon Lett's imfamous fumble celebration at Super Bowl XXVII. But like Jurkiewicz's blunder, Lett's wasn't too costly. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills, 52-17.
