The show is created and written by Karin Gist and adapts Lawrence Otis Graham’s 1999 novel Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class.
There will be five episodes in total for the first season, with a slew of exciting stars taking center stage as regulars on the show.

When Is ‘Our Kind of People’ Out?
The show will premiere with the episode “Reparations” which is written by creator Gist and directed by Tasha Smith.
It will debut on Fox on Tuesday September 21, 2021 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT), and the show will then air weekly on the channel until October 19.
The second episode is titled “My Mother, Myself” and the third “Hot Links & Red Drinks,” and it has yet to be revealed who directed or wrote each one.
Who Will Star in ‘Our Kind of People’?
Yaya DaCosta takes on the lead role of single mother Angela Vaughn, viewers will recognize her from Chicago Med where she portrayed April Sexton, a role she also played in guest appearances for Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.
DaCosta is joined by Alana Bright, who portrays Angela’s daughter Nikki, while Morris Chestnut, Nadine Ellis and Rhyon Nicole Brown play Raymond, Leah, and Lauren Dupont respectively.
Other cast members include Kyle Bary as Quincy Dupont, Joe Morton as Teddy Franklin, and Lance Gross as Tyrique Freeman.
What Will Happen in ‘Our Kind of People’?
Our Kind of People follows Angela as she returns to Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, to reclaim her family name.
Back in her hometown, the single mother tries to join the “sisterhood” of the rich and powerful Black elite in the area and she introduces her revolutionary haircare line that focuses on highlighting Black women’s natural beauty.
The drama soon sees Angela discover a dark secret about her own mother, one that completely flips her world upside down.
Is There a Trailer for ‘Our Kind of People’?
A trailer and a number of different clips have been released in the lead-up to the show’s debut on Fox.
The main preview teases the glitzy life that Angela is about to enter in Oak Buffs but also hints at a dark secret underneath all the glamour.
On Fox’s website for the drama, viewers can also enjoy a number of behind-the-scenes featurettes focused on the fashion, hair, and makeup, as well as character introductions provided by the respective actor who is playing them.
