This writer is really into the cat and mouse game between serial killer Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and the MI6 agent chasing after her, Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh). But don’t let the plot fool you. This isn’t a remake of NBC’s 2013 thriller, Hannibal, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy.
Killing Eve takes audiences on an international pursuit. Eve travels all over Europe, from London to Italy, to capture the quick-witted criminal mastermind. We’re rooting for the cop to get his man…I mean her woman. The show feels fresh because the thriller genre is turned on its head and genders are switched.
Back in 2018, Oh mentioned filming internationally to Deadline, “When you’re able to shoot in Europe and internationally, those locations don’t lie. The feeling doesn’t lie, the quality of the light. You can always tell when it’s shot in London. It gives it that flavor and that quality, and we’re on location almost every day.”
Here is a crash course about Killing Eve before jumping into Season 3:
Who is Eve Polastri?
Eve has a dark fascination with the elusive serial killer. At first, Eve was intrigued by Villanelle’s attraction to her. Villanelle has shown no remorse for the lives she has taken. During the first season finale, Eve eventually cornered the unsuspecting murderer and stabbed her with a knife.
Who is Eve’s Husband?
Niko Polastri (Owen McDonnell), struggled to keep his marriage from falling apart. Niko, a math teacher, had to compete with Villanelle, who broke into their home and lavished his wife with expensive clothing. By the second season, the two become estranged due to the constant strain. When we last left Niko, Villanelle had him locked away in a London storage unit.
Who is Villanelle?
The deadly assassin can speak multiple languages. She sees her murders as a work of art. Villanelle has dressed up in costume and staged something elaborate before coming in for the kill.
Who does Villanelle work for?
Villanelle gets her assignments from a secret organization known as The Twelve. Konstantin Vasiliev (Kim Bodnia), Villanelle’s handler, has been working for The Twelve and betraying the crime syndicate at the same time.
Who is Eve’s boss?
Carolyn Marten (Fiona Shaw), Eve’s boss at MI6, is willing to make shady deals to get what she wants. Not only is Konstantin is Carol’s informant, he also happens to be her on-and-off again lover. Carolyn failed to keep her son, Kenny Stowton (Sean Delaney), from discovering her illicit affair. Eve respects a powerful women in charge, but she’s not so sure how far Carolyn is willing to go.
Are They Would-Be Lovers?
Villanelle previously had a violent and unhealthy obsession with her French instructor, Ana Aanmokoba. Due to her infatuation, Villanelle castrated Ana’s husband. If that’s not foreshadowing, I don’t know what is.
During the second season finale, Eve argued with the assassin that she didn’t know what love really is. With her heart broken, Villanelle took out her gun and fired a shot at Eve.
