Pop TV announced that Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt’s Creek Farewell will accompany the series finale on April 7.
The documentary will look behind the scenes of the show’s final season. “As we celebrate the end of Schitt’s Creek, we couldn’t do it without creating a special TV moment to send this historic series out on top,” Brad Schwartz, president of Pop TV said in a statement. “This must-watch behind the scenes doc is the perfect way to honor a series that has made an impact on so many people’s lives, with enduring characters and stories filled with heart, humor and honesty that will stand the test of time.”
Schitt’s Creek is a comedy that follows the once wealthy Rose family. After losing their money and affluent lifestyle, Johnny, Moira, Alexis and David find themselves financially trapped in Schitt’s Creek, the small town they once purchased as a joke. Throughout the show’s six seasons, fans fell in love with the show’s character growth, humorous storylines and family themes.
If the emotional impact from the season finale isn’t enough for viewers, the documentary will feature footage from the cast’s last table read and even show some of the actors’ audition tapes.
The show’s finale is already expected to bring laughs and tears. Emily Hampshire, Stevie on the series, foreshadows a strong ending. “You can expect it to rip your heart out,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “But honestly, I have so much respect for Dan [Levy, who co-created the show and plays David] for doing this, because it is hard on us that we have to end it. But we also know he’s ended it so well. Like, he could not give the fans a better ending to the show.”
In addition to the documentary, the Schitt’s Creek cast is embarking on a farewell tour. Tickets are already on sale for the American and Canadian event, which will run from May through July.
While there are regrets about ending the show, Annie Murphy, who plays Alexis, said the timing was perfect. “People are so deeply invested in the show and its message,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “But I think it’s the right choice, and we were really, really lucky to be able to end the way Dan and the writers wanted to. All of the characters are going to be tied up in this beautiful little bow.”
