Haddish (Girls Trip) confirmed they were dating back in August 2020 but it was reported in November 2021 that they had broken up after over a year of dating. Common, real name Lonnie Rashid Lynn, openly commented on their breakup earlier in December, which has now led Haddish to speak out.
Both parties have spoken to Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee on FOX Soul, giving their version of events.
What did Common say about Tiffany Haddish?
When asked about the end of his relationship with Haddish, which was first reported by People in November, Common spoke at length about his ex.
In an interview with host Jason Lee, he told Hollywood Unlocked, “First of all, I want to say Tiffany, is for me, one of the best people I met in life. One of the best-hearted and most authentic and caring people that I met in life, and that’s what made me love her and be in love with her her and want to be in a relationship with her and grow with her. We had a real healthy and loving, it was probably the most mature relationship I’ve been in.”
Common said once he and Haddish started to get back to work after lockdown restrictions were lifted, the pair found less time for each other. “Once Tiffany and I got back on the move it didn’t allow for us to spend as much time together and put as much energy into our relationship.” He continued, “I don’t think the love dispersed, I think we just weren’t feeding the relationship.”
When asked by host Lee if they couldn’t work around their schedule, Common replied, “Our energy is great together, I feel like we discussed it and gave it time. I think for one thing, because I care about Tiffany, I want to make sure she is happy, and if I can’t keep that happiness then I didn’t want to do that.”
What did Tiffany Haddish say about Common?
Speaking to Jason Lee for Hollywood Unlocked a few weeks later, Haddish seemed to have a different recollection of their break up.
Responding to Common’s comments, Haddish was asked if she was angry about what he said, “I was disappointed. I was very disappointed. I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ ‘Cause that’s not what you told me, but okay.’” She reaffirmed that what was actually said will stay between her and Common.
Haddish suggested she wasn’t buying the excuse of their break up being determined by busy schedules. After being asked what she thought of the reason, she took a big sigh and said, “The same thing everybody else was thinking in them comments.”
Reflecting on Common’s dating history, Haddish said, “He might be the type of person that never really settles with somebody, maybe he’s like a bee going from flower to flower to flower. I don’t know. I wish him nothing but joy and happiness. He will always be cool.”
Finally, Haddish was asked if she would date another famous man after her relationship with Common. She quickly replied, “I would f*** one.”
