On Wednesday, the Clueless actress shared a weepy minute-long video explaining that she had just found out about the death of DMX. The rapper died on April 9, 2021.

Dash cried as she said DMX had been “lost to that demon of addiction”—the official cause of death was a cocaine-induced heart attack—and talked about her own experiences with drug abuse, saying she was over six years clean.

Social media users were unimpressed, however, with thousands of commenters using the same pun to mock her.

“I guess Stacey Dash Clueless after all,” “Stacey Dash still living in her Clueless role,” “Acting literally clueless,” and “Stacey Dash took the word ‘Clueless’ and ran with it huh?” were just some of the messages playing on her best-known role.

Dash, a former Fox News commentator who has come under fire in recent years for various controversial political opinions, became a trending topic across Twitter and Reddit as well as TikTok, where the video was uploaded to the unverified @official.staceydash account.

Other social media users managed to make jokes and memes without mentioning the 1995 movie, however.

“Stacey Dash ain’t been the same since she left Kanye at that airport,” wrote journalist Olafimihan Oshin, referring to her role in the video for the 2004 single “All Falls Down.”

“To be fair, i’m pretty sure Stacey Dash’s social media algorithm ain’t prioritizing rapper news,” posted comedian Roy Wood Jr.

He suggested that her feed was likely dominated by conservative talking points. “She prolly over there scroll through nothing but MyPillow ads and Herschel Walker sharpening crayons.”

Radio host Reese Waters offered an idea for Dash to redeem herself. “The only way Stacey Dash can make this right is to storm Fox News & start a DMX prayer circle,” he wrote.

The popular UberFacts account tweeted a more subtle critique: “DMX passed away 509 days ago.”

Twitter user @laugh_track_nut wrote: “Wait till Stacey Dash finds out about Whitney, Michael and Prince. We gon have to do a wellness check.”

Joking along a similar line, @MKerklin posted: “Who else does Stacey Dash not know is dead? I’m starting with Frederick Douglass.” The abolitionist died in 1895.

Some commenters were more concerned about Dash’s appearance in the clip, raising questions about the seemingly lighter tone of her skin.

“I feel like Stacey Dash just wanted us to see her new skin color,” wrote @Darikeon, gaining 12,000 likes for the observation. In the replies, Dash was compared to Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Teddy Perkins from Atlanta and Edward Cullen from Twilight.

Newsweek has reached out to Stacey Dash for further comment.
