Bouchard, 20, played her first Grand Slam final. She was unable to cope with Kvitova’s power and accuracy, losing in less than an hour.
It has been a breakthrough year for Bouchard, a Canadian who reached the semifinals at both the Australian Open and French Open. Bouchard reached Saturday’s final on Centre Court without losing a set.
Once there, she was blown away by Kvitova, who won her second Wimbledon title in four years.
Magnanimous in defeat, Bouchard reflected on a steep learning curve in her fledgling career.
“It was really tough for me,” she said during a post-match interview, “but I am proud of how I have played for these two weeks.
“I love coming back to Wimbledon so thank you, guys.
“I feel like it’s a step in the right direction, I’m not sure I deserve all your love but I certainly appreciate it.”
