One year ago, the fight was nothing more than a pipedream. Before his lightweight title unification bout with Robert Easter Jr. in July, Garcia started bringing up the possibility of moving up in weight and challenging the man, who is perhaps the best 147-pound fighter in the world. At first, Spence was dismissive of the bout and told Sporting News during his conference call that he didn’t think too much about it. But Garcia brought it up more. That and the lure of it taking place at the largest stadium in the country, proved to be too much for Spence to pass up.

Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) had a stellar 2018. Last March, he moved up to 140 pounds and dominated Sergey Lipinets to capture the IBF title. Then, he went back down to lightweight and beat Easter to add the IBF belt to his collection.
Not to be outdone, Spence (24-0, 21 KOs), a 2012 Olympian, also fought two times in 2018, having stopped Lamont Peterson and Carlos Ocampo.
Boxing pundits and fans alike feel Garcia is biting off a little more than he chew and Spence should have an easy night at the office.
But can Garcia defy the odds and move up in weight to pull off the upset? Or does Spence prove that there are weight classes for a reason, while reinforcing why he’s one of the best in the fight game?
