Jennifer Navaria, who works at Seaglass Restaurant in Salisbury, served Boch Jr. on February 1, and received the tip on a bill of $157, as reported by CBS Boston.

Navaria told CBS Boston: “It’s just one of those things you never think would ever happen to you I’ve read about it over the years and never in a million years.

“I just went over casually to the table. I looked down and thought oh $50 that’s nice —on $157, that’s nice. I kind of looked again at the slip. It said ‘Donnie, your move.’ I really had to look at the bottom line; that’s when I was shaking”.

Boch Jr. is the CEO and president of Boch Enterprises, a $1 billion company consisting of automobile dealerships, and he has a net worth of $1.1 billion, according to NBC Boston.

The executive told CBS Boston: “Waiters and waitresses they’re such fine people. It really hit me. I don’t know what it was. There was a feeling—this person is amazing. That’s why I did it.”

Navaria added: “He said ‘You were fantastic and I’m happy to recognize your hard work.’ That was really nice because sometimes I don’t feel like people truly do know it can hard at times. I still love it, but sometimes it is challenging.”

The note on the bill refers to Donnie Wahlberg, member of New Kids on the Block, who tipped Bethany Provencher $2,020 on his $78 check at IHOP, on New Year’s Day.

Wahlberg’s wife Jenny McCarthy shared a photo of the bill on Twitter and said: “Donnie Wahlberg starting 2020 off like the amazing man he is.”

In response to a tweet of a bill with a $20.20 tip that said: “Donnie Wahlberg, doing my part, even if I don’t have access to your credit card,” Wahlberg tweeted: “Any act of kindness is always perfect. No matter how big or small. This means just as much, if not more.”

The tipping challenge invites guests to be generous with their tipping in 2020 and if possible, to tip their servers with $20.20, $202.0, or $2,020. Or, in Boch’s case, $5,000.

The challenge began when a server in Michigan, Danielle Franzoni, received a tip of $2,020, on a bill of $23. Then, when Wahlberg tipped his server, the challenge went viral.

Harry Styles also took part in the challenge, tipping a server $2,020 on a $472.50 bill while on vacation with Adele and James Corden in Anguilla over the New Year.
