Early in the third quarter, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders took a crushing hit from Rams’ defensive back Rodney McLeod, and had to exit the game as well.

McLeod was given a penalty for the vicious hit, and despite it being a rather ugly hit, it appeared to be clean. But referees continue to throw flags on big hits, regardless of whether they are illegal.
