Chappelle invited the Tesla CEO on to the stage during a special Punchline Comedy Club event on December 11 at the Chase Center.
Musk walked out on to the stage and the crowd was not keen to see him after he controversially bought Twitter for $44 billion in October and then fired thousands of its staff.
One Twitter user shared a video of the moment Chappelle introduced Musk, who seemed to be met with a mixture of boos and cheers at the stadium which has a 19,500 capacity.
He broke his silence on the awkward moment when a Twitter user replied to a tweet of his from earlier in the day which read “Truth resonates …”
The Twitter user replied, “So does a crowd full of boos,” referencing what happened at Chappelle’s standup show.
But Musk was not having the criticism and denied he was booed by a majority of the crowd.
“Technically, it was 90% cheers & 10% boos (except during quiet periods), but, still, that’s a lot of boos, which is a first for me in real life (frequent on Twitter),” he replied.
“It’s almost as if I’ve offended SF’s unhinged leftists … but nahhh.”
As Chapelle brought Musk on stage and it became apparent many people were booing him, the billionaire said to the comedian, “weren’t expecting this were you?” to which Chapelle replied, “it sounds like some of them people you fired are in the audience.”
Chappelle then addressed those booing saying, “Wait, wait, those of you booing… I’m just pointing out they have terrible seats.”
Speaking of Musk, he said, “This n**** not even trying to die on earth. His whole business model is f*** earth, I’m leaving anyway.”
The SpaceX founder has said he wanted humans to colonize Mars and the comedian joked the reason he invited him on stage was to make sure he didn’t “miss this opportunity,” because “the first comedy club on Mars, that should be mine.”
Chappelle then lashed out at the crowd again telling Musk it was “the sound of pending civil unrest.
“I can’t wait to see what story you decimate next motherf*****,” Chappelle said.
“You shut the f*** up with your boos. There’s something better you can do. Booing is not the best thing you can do. I wish everybody in this audience peace.”
Musk appeared at the comedy show only hours after coming under fire for a tweet directed at Dr. Anthony Fauci, the national soon-to-be retired chief medical adviser.
In his tweet, the billionaire, 51, appeared to mock pronoun use and said: “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci advocated for people to get vaccinated and wear masks, but has come under scrutiny from conservatives and conspiracy theorists over the advice he offered during that time.
Former CIA director and Obama White House official John Brennan defended Fauci after Musk’s tweet.
“Dr. Fauci is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health. Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions. You may have money, but you have no class,” Brennan wrote on Twitter.
But Musk did receive some support for his tweet, including from Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul.
“Fauci’s resignation should not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He must be required to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the Wuhan lab leak,” the senator wrote on Twitter.
