He tweeted about the mega company several times on Monday after he alleged they threatened to withhold Twitter from their App Store. He also accused them of hating free speech (while CCing Tim Cook) and discussed their “secret 30% tax” that they put on the App Store.
While many were riled up by Musk’s many comments, others found the funny side after every tweet from the billionaire and Tesla CEO was followed by the words “Twitter for iPhone.”
Countless Twitter users pointed out the gaffe, piling in on the owner of the social media site for his mistake.
“Elon Musk hates Apple so much he’s been tweeting about the company all day FROM HIS IPHONE,” wrote Twitter user Jack Cocchiarella. Dr. Caroline Orr Bueno included multiple screenshots of Musk’s tweets in her analysis of his “meltdown.”
“Sir, this is an iPhone,” pointed out user @Out5p0ken, putting a twist on the meme, “Sir, this is a Wendy’s.”
Musk first called out Apple on Monday after he noticed they’d stopped advertising on his platform.
“Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?” Musk wrote and added, “What’s going on here Tim Cook?”
Musk started retweeting comments on Apple censorship before posting a poll to his followers.
“Apple should publish all censorship actions it has taken that affect its customers?” The poll has received close to 2 million responses with 84.8 percent of people voting yes, at the time of writing. Later he said that the “Twitter Files on free speech suppression” would soon be published on Twitter because “the public deserves to know what really happened.”
“Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why,” Musk added as his rally against Apple continued. His next tweet said that “Apple puts a secret 30% tax on everything you buy through their App Store.”
Musk’s stance against the company appeared to work among some of his supporters as people started tweeting about throwing away their iPhone.
“I’ll happily ditch my iPhone and go with the Elon Musk alternative. Don’t try me Tim Cook,” conspiracy theorist Dinesh D’Souza wrote.
