Honda and Toyota have long been accused by auto industry professionals of falling behind the competition due to lack of electrified models in their lineup. “The Prologue is Honda’s first real moonshot into the EV era since the underwhelming Clarity Electric,” Robby DeGraff, industry analyst at AutoPacific told Newsweek.
“With very premium styling inside and out, more room for passengers and cargo, plus the storied reliability and quality consumers know Honda does best- the Prologue appears to check all the boxes to warrant its sales success.”
The 2024 Honda Prologue will sit above the compact CR-V and alongside the Passport in the company’s SUV lineup, though its dimensions are not the same size as the midsize SUV’s.
Honda’s specifications sheet has the Prologue being about eight inches longer and 6 inches shorter than Passport. Prologue’s wheelbase is about 10 inches longer than Passport’s. They are approximately the same width.
The new electric vehicle (EV) is 8 inches longer and 5 inches wider than the redesigned 2023 Honda CR-V.
Prologue will be one of two vehicles that the company will build in partnership with General Motors in the coming years. The new Acura ZDX, from Honda’s luxury arm, is the other. A series of EVs will be co-developed with GM for sale in North America starting in 2027.
“Honda’s mastered hybrids and surely could have gone at releasing the Prologue entirely on its own, but teaming up with GM to share its proven Ultium platform is a really smart move in order to save on development costs and expedite the vehicle’s arrival,” DeGraff said.
Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles designed the Prologue, which features “generous passenger and cargo space”, according to the automaker.
The company calls the electric SUV’s exterior design “neo-rugged” with an interior that is “ready for adventure inside and outside the city limits”.
Honda has coated the exterior of the debut model with North Shore Pearl-colored paint that was inspired of the colors near Lake Tahoe, California. The new Prologue also features a panoramic roof, 21-inch wheels and a charcoal and light gray interior color scheme.
The automaker is taking a page out of the Honda and Nissan playbook, replacing the typical Honda “H” badge at the back of the model with a stylized typeface that the automaker says “captures the modern and clean design of the Prologue”. The SUV will adopt the brand’s E: series name badging.
Honda promises that every Prologue will come standard with an 11-inch digital driver information display and an 11.3-inch infotainment screen.
The Prologue is one of the 30 new EVs Honda plans to roll out globally by 2030. More information about the model, including its powertrain capabilities will be revealed closer to the SUV’s on-sale date.
