Here’s a breakdown each quarterback’s performance in the Bills’ 43-19 preseason win.

EJ Manuel
Manuel started the game by completing his first six passes for 166 yards and a pair of touchdowns (he finished 7 of 8 for 170 yards). He was on the field for Buffalo’s first two drives, which were both finished with touchdowns (Fred Jackson did all the heavy lifting on the first drive).
The highlight of Manuel’s day was a 67-yard bomb to tight end Charles Clay for a touchdown.
His other touchdown came late in the third quarter on a 37-yard pass to wideout Tobais Palmer.
Manuel finished with a 158.3 quarterback rating, which is considered perfect. Overall, he’s had an impressive preseason — four touchdowns and no interceptions in three games.
Matt Cassel
Cassel came in after Manuel’s first two drives but couldn’t get much going on offense. He was accurate (completed 6 of 7 passes) but finished with just 38 yards and no touchdowns. He played two series for Buffalo: One ended in a punt, and another ended with a missed field goal. Overall, Cassel didn’t leave much of a lasting impression.
Tyrod Taylor
Taylor entered the game in the second quarter and led the Bills 80 yards down the field in 11 plays for a touchdown on his first drive. He completed 6 of 7 passes on the drive before Ricky Seale scored on a 1-yard run. His second drive lasted only two plays right before the end of the half, but it did result in a field goal.
At the start of the third quarter, Taylor once again led Buffalo to a touchdown. He completed five passes on the drive before eventually scoring on a 20-yard run.
Taylor finished the game completing 12 of 13 passes for 122 yards. While he didn’t throw any touchdowns, he led the Bills to multiple scoring drives and looked comfortable in their offense.
Summary
The Bills’ quarterbacks were great Saturday. Even Matt Simms completed 5 of 5 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, the group completed 30 of 33 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
For a team supposedly in “quarterback purgatory,” all four QBs at least appeared to be solid options against Pittsburgh.
