Shore’s No. 2 Bruins jersey was sold to an undisclosed collector from New York. The jersey’s prior owner, Scott Johnston, initially planned to frame and display the jersey before finding out just how much it was worth. The original owner was Johnston’s grandfather, Byron Johnston. He acquired the jersey while playing in the old Can-Am Hockey League in the 1930s.

Shore began his career with a team in his hometown of Cupar, Saskatchewan before joining the Regina Capitals of the Western Canada Hockey League. After entering the NHL with the Bruins, Shore went on to have stints with the Edmonton Eskimos and New York Americans.

Shore won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP four times and was named an All-Star in eight of his last nine seasons. He also set a then-NHL record for 165 penalty minutes in the 1927-28 season. In 1947, Shore was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and had his number retired by the Bruins.
