ESPN's Brett McMurphy later confirmed the news and added that Orgeron was outraged that he was not given the position and that offensive coordinator Clay Helton will coach the Trojans in their bowl game.
On Monday afternoon, former USC assistant coach and current Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian accepted the position to be the Trojans new head coach.
According to Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Times, Orgeron has applied for the vacant head coaching position at Florida Atlantic.
Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports refutes the report that Orgeron is interested in the Florida Atlantic position.
UPDATE: Orgeron is applying for the head coaching position at Wake Forest, Wolf reports. The Demon Deacons position became available Monday when coach Jim Grobe announced he was resigning after 13 seasons at the school.
Prior to being named interim head coach at USC following the dismissal of Lane Kiffin, Orgeron's only head coaching experience was at Ole Miss, where he amassed a 16-27 record over three seasons from 2005 to 2008.
