Olczyk, with play-by-play announcer Pat Foley at his side, broke the news between periods during the NBC Sports Chicago broadcast of the Blackhawks’ game vs. the Canucks.

“We beat this thing,” Olczyk said, “and I say ‘we’ because it was a total team effort.”

Olczyk thanked the Blackhawks organization, his family, Foley and the hockey community. 

Olczyk, 51, was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in August 2017. He told Sporting News in December he wanted to help inspire others to get exams.

“I think the more I got into it I wanted to share my story with people and have people get a colonoscopy a little bit earlier, or if you don’t feel well say something,” Olczyk said.
