The tech pioneer and entrepreneur, who today is best known for his charitable work via the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation while retaining the position as one of the richest people in the world, has also long been the victim of conspiracy theories. While most of those theories focus on his wealth, power or work on vaccines, one of the stranger claims went viral on the internet this week: that he was given computer lessons more than two decades ago by the Colombian singer Shakira....

The posts suggest that Vince McMahon completed the deal after taking over the leadership of WWE from his daughter Stephanie McMahon, who resigned from the board. But are there any facts behind the speculation? The Claim A number of people close to the sport have stated on social media that the Saudi sovereign fund has bought the wrestling brand, with Steven Muehlhausen, head of social media at Pro Wrestling and DAZN, among the first to share the news....

But this week, a number of journalists had their Twitter accounts suspended, including reporters from CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. Musk said the suspensions are linked to an account that tracked the movement of his private jet. The billionaire cited his personal safety and that of his family as motivation for pursuing these suspensions. But the journalists dispute Musk’s characterization of their activity as endangering him or his family....

The Claim Several videos published on YouTube, Twitter and other platforms in recent days purportedly show the launch of a ball of plasma into the sky. The amateur footage, which is half a minute long, was apparently recorded on a smartphone as a crowd of onlookers observed and filmed the event. “China Launches $1 Trillion Artificial Sun That Burns 5 Times Hotter Than The Sun!” says the caption under one of the YouTube clips, which has garnered nearly 2,000 views so far as of Monday....

The image features both entertainers seated next to each other, wearing hats with “Trump 2020” across the front. But users were quick to point out issues with the photo, leading to questions about its accuracy. The Claim The photo began circulating on social media platforms Monday, receiving thousands of shares on Twitter and Facebook. But it picked up more traction on Tuesday, when Eric Trump, the president’s 37-year-old son, shared the image with his 4....

Amid Ukraine’s recent tactical triumphs, including pushing Russian forces off the long-contested Snake Island, many were prepared to believe that the scenes depicted in the clip are real. But while Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to generate copious amounts of striking and often horrifying modern combat footage, some commentators remained skeptical about the authenticity of the clip, saying it is too cinematic to be true. The Claim Several Telegram channels and Twitter accounts shared a video by an unidentified poster on Thursday featuring a battle scene between a convoy of Russian tanks and military vehicles and what appears to be a modified Ukrainian ZAZ mounted with various weapons....

Sponsored by Defense of Democracies, a group with GOP connections, the ad takes the House to task for not passing the bill, as the Senate has. The ad appeals to fear, with its image of Osama bin Laden and similar ploys. But we find that it also makes several misleading claims. Specifically, the ad says that: “The law” allowing government eavesdroppers to intercept al Qaeda communications has expired. But the main, 30-year-old law that lets them listen in, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, is still on the books....
